Birgit Teichmann was born and raised in Berlin.
After graduating high school she began her practical training in landscaping by learning the trade of professional landscape gardening.
Following her studies in Landscape Management at the Technical University in Berlin, begun in 1985, she accepted a one-year work-study scholarship to the USA, supplementing her first professional experience in open space planning with courses at the Ohio State University.
During her studies and after graduation in 1990 with the degree Landscape Management Engineer (FH) she expanded her space planning experience working in planning offices throughout Berlin.
In 1991 she merged her knowledge of spatial planning with social work as a project manager at the International Federation of Social Work (IB). Youth work, participation and open space design for children defined her managerial responsibilities with the Federation until 1998.
Member of the Berlin Chamber of Architects since 1997.
In 1997, Birgit Teichmann and Manfred Dietzen co-founded the planning office Dietzen + Teichmann. Since 2010, Birgit Teichmann has led the office under the name Teichmann Landscape Architecture.
