Neighborhood Quarter Lichtenrade – Alte Mälzerei
On the site of the Alte Mälzerei in the center of Lichtenrade, Berlin, a low-car, lively and climate-adapted urban quarter is being created, including 250 new rental apartments and connecting open spaces. The listed buildings Alte Mälzerei and Landhaus Lichtenrade play a key role in the design of the outdoor areas. Publicly accessible open spaces such as a spacious market square, integrated playgrounds and fountains such as a flowing surface and spray mist enliven the quarter. The blue-green design integrates rainwater infiltration in trough infiltration basins and uses spanning grid walkway elements for access. Lush green inner courtyards, a near-natural daycare area and an intensively greened roof terrace provide recreational space for children and residents alike. The implementation of the outdoor facilities is planned for the period from 2023 to 2024.
